INTEGRATED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE - IDV

Domestic Violence Issues
Domestic Violence Issues

Integrated Domestic Violence Court ( IDV ) was enacted by Chief Judge Judith Kaye.  It is a single Court in each of the respective boroughs and better serves families by allowing a single judge to hear multiple case types which are pending at the same time (i.e.: criminal, family and divorce and/or separation).  The Court was modeled after “one family - one judge”.  The Court was enacted in response to the problem which, in the past, required the same family members to appear before multiple Courts and having some of the same issues decided by  multiple judges, often located in different parts of a county, to address their legal issues. By connecting one judge with one family, IDV Courts aim to provide more informed judicial decision-making and greater consistency in court orders, while reducing the number of court appearances. In addition, these courts offer enhanced services to victims and help to ensure offender accountability.

Because this Court also hears criminal cases involving domestic acts it has many legal ramifications that are extremely important and must be handled by an attorney experienced in all these fields of law.  Make sure the lawyer that you choose is skilled in Family Law, Criminal Law and Divorce Law, otherwise you will be gambling with your rights.
