PINS
- FAMILY COURT

P.I.N.S is an abbreviation for “A Person in Need of Supervision”.  This is initiated by the filing of a petition which alleges that a child under the age of 18 is a status offender. This proceeding addresses a child who is constantly out of school, incorrigible, and/or having possessed marijuana.

There are 2 separate issues which are absolutely distinct.  If you are the parent of this “problem child” then the goal is to obtain help from the Court to put your child back on track. This is done through the Family Court Ordering “services” for the “problem child”.

If you are the “problem child” your goal is to minimize or avoid any restrictions on your freedom, which is being sought by your parent.
